Ezekiel 19: A Song of Sadness

God told Ezekiel to take up a lamentation, a sad song, for the princes of Israel. In the song, their mother was a lioness who raised her cubs among young lions. One cub became a young lion who learned to catch prey, but the nations caught him and brought him with hooks to Egypt. She raised another cub, who also became fierce, but the nations spread their net over him and brought him to the king of Babylon. Then the song changes picture. The mother was like a fruitful vine planted by the waters, with strong branches fit for rulers. But she was plucked up in fury and cast down to the ground; the east wind dried up her fruit. Now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land, and has no strong branch to be a ruler's scepter. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

Take It Home

Read the verse aloud. Say: God asked Ezekiel to sing a sad song. The kings of Israel had not followed God, and now there was much sadness. God cares when His people are sad. Let's tell God about anything that makes us sad.
