Privacy
The Daily Rooted is made for students, teachers and families, including children under 13. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what the site does with information. Last updated October 20, 2026.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, logins or sign-ups for students. We never ask for a name, email, age, school or photo.
- No ads, no advertising networks and no tracking or analytics scripts.
- No cookies set by The Daily Rooted.
- No third-party fonts, videos, social-media widgets or embedded scripts. Story photos are copied to our own server, so your browser loads them from thedailyrooted.com, not from other sites.
- We do not sell or share information about visitors with anyone.
What stays in your own browser
To remember your choices, the site saves a few settings in your browser's local storage on your own device: the grade level you picked, light or dark mode, the "hide deep-time content" setting, stories you bookmark, read-aloud speed and voice, and print options. It also keeps a list of which stories were opened in this browser in the last 8 days, plus a random code for the current visit, to show the "Trending" list (marked "demo data"). None of this is sent to us or anyone else. You can erase it any time by clearing your browser's site data. The site also saves its own pages in your browser so it works offline.
Read aloud
The "Listen" button uses the speech voices built into your browser or device. We do not receive the audio or text. Some browsers use online voices run by the browser maker (for example Google or Microsoft); that is covered by your browser's own privacy policy.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare's servers handle basic technical information such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We do not receive or keep logs that identify visitors. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Links to other sites
Stories link to the original publishers, and some buttons open other services only when you click them (for example "Share to Classroom" opens Google Classroom, and "Report a mistake" opens your email app). Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Teachers and parents
If you choose to email us (for example to report a mistake), we use your message only to reply and fix the problem. Questions about privacy: [email protected].
