Paul's teaching on households continues. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. He quotes the commandment: Honor your father and mother, which comes with a promise of blessing. You fathers, don't provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Paul then addresses servants and masters. He tells servants to serve in singleness of your heart, as to Christ, not just when someone is watching, but doing the will of God from the heart. Each will receive good from the Lord, whether he is bound or free. Masters are told, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him.
Then comes Paul's final call. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Paul says our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against unseen spiritual powers. Paul describes each piece: the utility belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the Good News of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Each piece is something God provides. Paul urges prayer at all times in the Spirit and asks them to pray that he may speak boldly. Tychicus would bring news. The letter ends: Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love. Amen.
