Chapter 1Preschool–Grade 5

Ephesians 1: Every Spiritual Blessing

Ephesians 1 opens with the name Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, writing to the saints who are at Ephesus. Paul praises God, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. God chose His people in love, and in Christ we have redemption and the forgiveness of our trespasses. Believers are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Paul prays that they would know the hope of God's calling and the greatness of His power, the same power that raised Christ from the dead.

Chapter 2Preschool–Grade 5

Ephesians 2: Saved by Grace

Ephesians 2 says that people were dead in their sins, but God, being rich in mercy, made us alive together with Christ. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. We are His workmanship, created for good works. Christ is our peace: He broke down the wall that divided Jews and Gentiles and made them one family. Together they are being built into a holy temple where God lives by His Spirit.

Ephesians 3: Rooted and Grounded in Love

In Ephesians 3, Paul calls himself a prisoner for the sake of the Gentiles. God showed him a mystery: the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body with Israel through the Good News. Paul calls himself the very least of all saints, yet God gave him grace to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. He bows his knees and prays that the believers would be rooted and grounded in love and know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge. He ends with praise to God, who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.

Chapter 4Preschool–Grade 5

Ephesians 4: Be Kind to One Another

Ephesians 4 begins the practical part of the letter. Paul begs believers to walk worthily of their calling with humility, patience, and love, keeping the unity of the Spirit. There is one body and one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. Christ gave gifts to His people so the church would grow up in love. Believers should put away the old way of life and put on the new: speak truth, don't let anger lead to sin, work honestly, and use words that build others up. Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Chapter 5Preschool–Grade 5

Ephesians 5: Walk in Love as Children of Light

Ephesians 5 calls believers to be imitators of God, as beloved children, and to walk in love, because Christ loved us so much that He gave His life for us. Paul tells them to turn away from sin and foolish talk and to give thanks instead. You were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord, so walk as children of light. Be wise, be filled with the Spirit, and sing and give thanks to God. Paul then speaks to wives and husbands, describing marriage as a picture of Christ and the assembly: Christ loved the assembly and gave himself up for her.

Chapter 6Preschool–Grade 5

Ephesians 6: The Whole Armor of God

Ephesians 6 begins with families: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right, and fathers are told not to provoke their children but to raise them in the instruction of the Lord. Paul gives instructions to servants and masters, reminding masters that both have the same Master in heaven, with whom there is no partiality. Then Paul says, be strong in the Lord and put on the whole armor of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the Good News of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. He asks for prayer and closes with peace and grace.
