At the ninth hour, the hour of prayer, Peter and John went up to the temple. At the gate called Beautiful sat a man lame from birth, carried there daily to ask for gifts. Peter fastened his eyes on him and said, "Look at us." The man looked, expecting something.
Peter answered: "I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you." In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth he told the man to walk, took him by the right hand, and raised him. Immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength, and he entered the temple walking, leaping, and praising God.
When the crowd gathered at Solomon's porch, Peter refused the credit. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had glorified his servant Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. It was faith through his name that gave the man this perfect soundness (Acts 3:16).
Peter granted that they had acted in ignorance, as had their rulers. Then he called them to repent and turn again so that their sins might be blotted out and times of refreshing might come from the Lord. He reminded them that Moses and all the prophets from Samuel onward had spoken of these days, and that God sent his servant Jesus first to bless them, turning each one away from wickedness (Acts 3:26).
