A widow of one of the prophets cried to Elisha. Her husband had feared the Lord, but he had died in debt, and the creditor was coming to take her two sons. She had only a jar of oil. Elisha told her to borrow many empty containers, shut the door, and pour. The oil flowed until every vessel was full. Then Elisha told her to sell the oil, pay the debt, and live on the rest.
A wealthy woman of Shunem often fed Elisha and built him a small upper room with a bed, table, chair, and lamp. Elisha promised she would have a son, and the next year she did. When the boy grew, he cried that his head hurt, and he died on his mother's lap. She laid him on Elisha's bed and rode to Mount Carmel. Elisha came, shut the door, and prayed to the Lord. He stretched himself on the child, and the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
During a famine at Gilgal, a man gathered wild gourds for stew. When the prophets tasted it, they cried that there was death in the pot. Elisha added flour, and nothing harmful remained. A man brought twenty barley loaves of firstfruits. Elisha said to give them to the people. His servant asked how this could feed a hundred men. They ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
