Luke 9 keeps asking one question: who is Jesus? Herod wondered about it when he heard what Jesus was doing. The crowds saw the answer when Jesus took five loaves and two fish, looked up to heaven, blessed them, and fed more than five thousand people. Like God fed Israel with manna in the wilderness, Jesus provided for His people, and there were twelve baskets left.
Then Jesus asked His disciples directly. Peter answered, The Christ of God. Jesus explained what kind of Christ He would be: He would suffer, be rejected, be killed, and be raised on the third day. He taught that whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Jesus' sake will save it. Following Jesus is a daily choice.
On the mountain, Peter, James and John saw a glimpse of Jesus' glory. Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, spoke with Him about the departure He would accomplish in Jerusalem. The Father said, This is my beloved Son. Listen to him! At the end of the chapter, Jesus set His face to go to Jerusalem. He warned that following Him must come before every other comfort.
