Luke 8 is about hearing God's Word and trusting the One who speaks it. In the parable of the sower, the seed is always good, but the soils are different. Some hearts are hard, and the devil snatches the word away. Some receive it with joy but fall away in testing. Some let worries, riches and pleasures choke it. The good soil hears the word with an honest and good heart, holds it fast, and bears fruit with patience. Jesus added that a lamp is not hidden, so we must be careful how we listen.
Then Jesus showed that He is Lord over everything. He calmed a storm with a word, and the frightened disciples asked who this was that even winds and water obey. In the region of the Gerasenes, He freed a man held by a legion of demons. Afterward the man sat calmly at Jesus' feet. Jesus sent him home to tell how much God had done for him.
Finally, two daughters met Jesus. A woman who had suffered for twelve years touched His cloak in faith and was healed. Jesus called her forward and gently said her faith had made her well. Then news came that Jairus's daughter had died. Jesus said, Don't be afraid. Only believe. He took her hand and called, Child, arise. Her spirit returned, and she got up at once.
