Who Is This?

Name Date

Read the Story

Jesus told the parable of a farmer sowing seed. Some fell on the path, some on rock, some among thorns, and some on good soil. He explained that the seed is the word of God. The good soil is people who hear the word, hold it fast, and bear fruit.

One day Jesus fell asleep in a boat. A windstorm came, and the boat was filling with water. The disciples woke Him, crying that they were dying. Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves, and it was calm. He asked them where their faith was. They wondered who He was, since even the wind and water obey Him.

Jairus, a synagogue ruler, begged Jesus to come because his daughter was dying. On the way, a woman who had been sick for twelve years touched His cloak and was healed. Then word came that the girl had died. Jesus said not to be afraid, only believe. He took her hand, and she got up.

Memory Verse

He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Being afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, “Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”

Power Over Storms and Sickness

Name Date

Read and Think

Jesus traveled from town to town with the twelve and some women who supported Him. He told a parable about a sower. The seed is the word of God. Seed on the path is like people whose hearts let the devil snatch the word away. Seed on rock is like people who fall away when trouble comes. Seed among thorns is choked by worries and riches. But seed in good soil is like people who keep the word and patiently bear fruit.

Next, Jesus showed His power. He calmed a fierce storm with a word. On the other side of the lake, He freed a man troubled by many evil spirits. The man sat at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind.

When Jesus returned, two people needed Him. A woman who had been ill for twelve years touched His cloak and was healed. Jesus called her daughter and praised her faith. Meanwhile, Jairus learned his twelve-year-old daughter had died. Jesus told him to believe. He took the girl's hand, and she rose up.

Luke 8 · Grade 5

Where Is Your Faith?

Name Date

Read and Think

Luke 8 is about hearing God's Word and trusting the One who speaks it. In the parable of the sower, the seed is always good, but the soils are different. Some hearts are hard, and the devil snatches the word away. Some receive it with joy but fall away in testing. Some let worries, riches and pleasures choke it. The good soil hears the word with an honest and good heart, holds it fast, and bears fruit with patience. Jesus added that a lamp is not hidden, so we must be careful how we listen.

Then Jesus showed that He is Lord over everything. He calmed a storm with a word, and the frightened disciples asked who this was that even winds and water obey. In the region of the Gerasenes, He freed a man held by a legion of demons. Afterward the man sat calmly at Jesus' feet. Jesus sent him home to tell how much God had done for him.

Finally, two daughters met Jesus. A woman who had suffered for twelve years touched His cloak in faith and was healed. Jesus called her forward and gently said her faith had made her well. Then news came that Jairus's daughter had died. Jesus said, Don't be afraid. Only believe. He took her hand and called, Child, arise. Her spirit returned, and she got up at once.
