Isaiah 66 · Grade 4

All Nations Will See My Glory

Name Date

Read and Think

Isaiah's final chapter begins with God's greatness: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me?" In the New Testament, Stephen quotes this in Acts 7:49-50. God is not impressed by grand buildings; he looks to the one "who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word."

God promises a miraculous birth of a nation: "Shall a nation be born at once?" Those who love Jerusalem should rejoice. God says, "Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river." Then he speaks tenderly: "As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you." God also warns that he will judge those who refuse him.

The book ends with a worldwide vision. God will "gather all nations and languages, and they will come, and will see my glory." Messengers will go to far islands "who have not heard my fame," and "declare my glory among the nations." God promises that "the new heavens and the new earth" will remain, and "all flesh will come to worship before me."
