Ezekiel 1: Visions of God by the River

Ezekiel was a priest living among the captives by the river Chebar in the land of the Chaldeans. He says the heavens were opened and he saw visions of God. In his vision a stormy wind and a great cloud with fire came out of the north. He describes four living creatures, each with four faces and four wings, and wheels beside them full of eyes. Wherever the spirit went, they went. Above them he saw the likeness of a throne and a brightness like a rainbow in the clouds. This was the appearance of the likeness of Yahweh's glory, and Ezekiel fell on his face.
