Chapter 1Preschool–Grade 5

2 Peter 1: Grow in Goodness

2 Peter 1 says God’s divine power has given believers everything they need for life and godliness, along with precious promises. So they should add to their faith moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection and love. Peter knows his death is near and wants them to remember these truths. He was an eyewitness of Jesus’ majesty and heard God’s voice on the holy mountain say, This is my beloved Son. No prophecy came by human will; holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 2: Warning About False Teachers

2 Peter 2 warns that false teachers will arise, bringing destructive teachings and exploiting people with deceptive words. God judged angels who sinned, the ancient world in Noah’s day and Sodom and Gomorrah, yet he rescued Noah and righteous Lot. So the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials. The false teachers are bold, greedy and deceitful, like Balaam. Peter calls them wells without water and says they promise freedom while they are slaves of corruption.

Chapter 3Preschool–Grade 5

2 Peter 3: The Lord Is Patient

2 Peter 3 reminds believers of the words of the prophets and of Jesus through the apostles. Scoffers will mock the promise of the Lord’s coming, forgetting that God made the world by his word and once judged it with water. With the Lord one day is as a thousand years. He is not slow about his promise but patient, not wishing that any should perish. The day of the Lord will come like a thief, and believers look for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells. They should live holy lives, beware of error and grow in grace.
