Zephaniah 3 · Grade 5
He Will Rejoice over You with Singing
Read and Think
Zephaniah 3 begins with a woe to Jerusalem. Verse 2 lists four failures: she didn't obey the voice, receive correction, trust in Yahweh, or draw near to her God. Yet Yahweh within her is righteous, and every morning he brings his justice to light.
In verse 9, God promises to purify the lips of the peoples so they may all call on Yahweh's name and serve him together. He leaves a humble remnant who take refuge in his name. The book that began with the day of Yahweh's wrath ends with joy: the mighty God who saves rejoices over his people with singing, and he gathers those who were driven away.
