Zechariah 8 is a chain of ten promises, each beginning with Yahweh of Armies says. God declares, I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, the Holy Mountain. The picture of renewal is gentle: old men and old women sit in the streets with staffs, and the streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing. If this seems marvelous to the remnant, God asks, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?
God promises to gather his people from the east and the west, and says, they will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. He says, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don't be afraid. Let your hands be strong. God reminds them that just as he once brought judgment, now he has thought to do good to Jerusalem.
God's people must respond with changed lives: speak every man the truth with his neighbor. Execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates. Mourning fasts would become joy, gladness, and cheerful feasts. Finally, many peoples and strong nations will come to seek Yahweh. Ten men out of all the languages of the nations will take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, we will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you. God's blessing on his people would draw the whole world toward him.
