They Will Look to Me

Name Date

Read and Think

Zechariah 12 is introduced as a revelation of Yahweh's word concerning Israel. It comes from Yahweh. He stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth. He forms the spirit of man. The Creator is the one who speaks.

God says that in that day he will make Jerusalem like a heavy stone for the nations, and he will defend the people of Jerusalem. The chieftains of Judah will say, the inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in Yahweh of Armies their God. He who is feeble among them will be like David.

Then God says, I will pour on David's house and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplication. They will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him as one mourns for his only son. In the New Testament, John 19:37 quotes this verse when Jesus is pierced on the cross.
