Chapter 1Preschool–Grade 5

Titus 1: Leaders Who Love Good

Titus 1 opens with the name Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, writing to Titus, his true child in the faith. God, who can't lie, promised eternal life before time began. Paul left Titus in Crete to set things in order and appoint elders in every city. An elder must be blameless, not quick to anger or greedy, but welcoming, a lover of good, self-controlled, and holding firmly to God's faithful word. Paul warns about false teachers who say they know God but deny Him by what they do.

Titus 2: Grace That Teaches Us

Titus 2 tells Titus to teach what fits sound doctrine to every group in the church: older men, older women, younger women, younger men, and servants. Titus himself should be an example of good works. Paul explains why: the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all. Grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness and to live self-controlled, upright, godly lives while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us.

Titus 3: Saved by His Mercy

Titus 3 reminds believers to obey rulers, be ready for every good work, speak evil of no one, and be gentle and humble toward all. Paul remembers that we were once foolish and lost. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of our good works, but by His mercy, by washing us, giving us new birth, and making us new by the Holy Spirit. Being made right by His grace, we have the hope of eternal life. So believers should devote themselves to good works.
