Read the Story

Boaz went up to the gate and sat down. The near kinsman came by, and Boaz took ten elders as witnesses. He told the kinsman that Naomi was selling Elimelech's land. The kinsman said, I will redeem it.

Then Boaz said that whoever bought the field must also take Ruth as wife. The kinsman said, I can't redeem it. He took off his sandal. This was the custom for making a deal final. Boaz told the elders and all the people, You are witnesses today. Ruth will be my wife.

Boaz and Ruth were married, and Yahweh gave them a son. The women said, Blessed be Yahweh, who has not left you without a near kinsman. They said Ruth loved Naomi and was better to her than seven sons. Naomi held the child. They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Memory Verse
