While We Were Yet Sinners

Name Date

Read the Story

Paul says that being made right by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We are glad as we hope in God's glory.

We are even glad in hard times. Hard times teach us to keep going. Keeping going builds strong character. Character gives us hope.

This hope will not let us down. God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

"But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Sin came into the world through one man, Adam. But through one man, Jesus Christ, God's free gift came to many. Where sin grew, grace grew even more.

Memory Verse

“But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Hope That Does Not Disappoint

Name Date

Read and Think

Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand. "We rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

Paul says we also rejoice in our sufferings. Suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. Hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

"For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." One might hardly die for a righteous man. "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." We were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, and we will be saved by his life.

Sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin. But the free gift is not like the trespass. Through one man's disobedience many were made sinners. Through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous. Where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly.

Show What You Know

  1. Into what do we have access by faith?

  2. What does proven character produce?

  3. When did Christ die for the ungodly?

  4. How will many be made righteous?

Reconciled Through His Son

Name Date

Read and Think

"Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Through him we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. We also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope. Hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

While we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Hardly would anyone die for a righteous man; perhaps for a good person someone might even dare to die. "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God's wrath through him. If while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. We also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have received the reconciliation.

As sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death passed to all because all sinned. Death reigned from Adam to Moses, and Adam is a foreshadowing of him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the trespass. If by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

As through one trespass all were condemned, even so through one act of righteousness all were justified to life. Through one man's disobedience many were made sinners; through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous. The law came in that the trespass might abound, but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly, that as sin reigned in death, grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Show What You Know

  1. Why does hope not disappoint us?

  2. What were we while God reconciled us through the death of his Son?

  3. Of whom is Adam a foreshadowing?

  4. Through what does grace reign to eternal life?
