Romans 3 · Grade 3

All Have Sinned

Name Date

Read the Story

Paul says God gave his words to the Jewish people. Even if some were not faithful, God is always faithful. Let God be found true.

Paul says all people, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin. As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one." The law helps us know what sin is.

But now God has shown a way to be made right with him. It comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

We are made right freely by God's grace through Christ Jesus. Jesus died for us. No one can boast. "We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law."

Memory Verse

“We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.”

Romans 3 · Grade 4

A Righteousness from God

Name Date

Read and Think

Paul asks what advantage the Jewish people have. Much in every way, because they were entrusted with the revelations of God. If some were unfaithful, that does not cancel God's faithfulness. "Let God be found true, but every man a liar."

Then Paul says both Jews and Greeks are all under sin. As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one." No one is justified by the works of the law, "for through the law comes the knowledge of sin."

"But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed." The law and the prophets testify to it. It is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, for there is no distinction. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

We are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. So boasting is excluded, not by works, but by faith. Paul says God is the God of Gentiles also, and he will justify all by faith. Faith does not cancel the law. "No, we establish the law."

Romans 3 · Grade 5

Justified Freely by Grace

Name Date

Read and Think

Paul asks what advantage the Jew has and answers, "Much in every way! Because first of all, they were entrusted with the revelations of God." If some were without faith, their unbelief does not nullify the faithfulness of God. "May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar."

Are we better than they? No, in no way, for both Jews and Greeks are all under sin. Paul gathers words from the Scriptures: "There is no one righteous; no, not one." No one understands or seeks after God; all have turned aside. The Scriptures go on to describe the harm sin does with words and actions, and that there is no fear of God before their eyes. So every mouth is stopped, and the whole world is accountable to God. "For through the law comes the knowledge of sin."

But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, testified by the law and the prophets. It is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, for there is no distinction. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God sent him to be an atoning sacrifice through faith in his blood. This demonstrated God's righteousness, so that he might be just and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.

Where then is boasting? It is excluded, not by a law of works, but by a law of faith. "We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law." Is God the God of Jews only? He is the God of Gentiles also, since there is one God who will justify both by faith. "Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law."

Show What You Know

  1. What does the unbelief of some not nullify?

  2. Why is every mouth stopped?

  3. Through what did God send Jesus to be an atoning sacrifice?

  4. By what kind of law is boasting excluded?

  1. God is both just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Why does it matter that God does not simply ignore sin?

  2. There is one God who will justify all by faith. How should this shape the way believers from different backgrounds treat one another?
