Written for Our Learning

Read and Think

"Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not to please ourselves." "Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, to be building him up." Even Christ did not please himself.

"For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that through perseverance and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." Paul prays that God would grant them the same mind with one another, that with one voice they may glorify God.

"Therefore accept one another, even as Christ also accepted you, to the glory of God." The Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit."

Paul says he made it his aim to preach the Good News where Christ was not already named. He plans to bring a contribution from Macedonia and Achaia for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. Then he hopes to see the believers in Rome on his way to Spain. He begs them to strive together with him in their prayers to God for him.
