Worthy Is Our God

Name Date

Read the Story

After this John looked, and a door was opened in heaven. The voice like a trumpet said, Come up here. Immediately John was in the Spirit. There was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne.

He looked like a jasper stone. A rainbow like an emerald was around the throne. Twenty-four elders sat on thrones, clothed in white, with crowns of gold. Lightnings and thunders came from the throne. Seven lamps of fire burned before it. There was a sea of glass, like crystal.

Four living creatures were full of eyes. Day and night they say, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come. The elders fall down and worship. They throw their crowns before the throne and say, Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things.

Memory Verse

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things, and because of your desire they existed and were created!”

Revelation 4 · Grade 4

Around the Throne

Name Date

Read and Think

John sees a door opened in heaven and hears, Come up here, and I will show you the things which must happen. At once he is in the Spirit. At the center of everything is a throne, and one sitting on the throne. John does not describe God’s face. He uses jewels and light: one who looked like jasper and sardius, with a rainbow like an emerald around the throne.

Around the throne are twenty-four thrones with elders dressed in white, wearing golden crowns. From the throne come lightnings, voices, and thunders. Seven lamps of fire burn before it, which are the seven Spirits of God. Before the throne is something like a sea of glass, like crystal.

Four living creatures surround the throne, full of eyes. One is like a lion, one like a calf, one has a face like a man, and one is like a flying eagle. They never stop saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty. When they give glory, the elders fall down, throw their crowns before the throne, and say, Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things.

Revelation 4 · Grade 5

Worthy to Receive Glory

Name Date

Read and Think

Before Revelation shows any trouble on earth, it shows heaven’s throne room. John sees a door opened in heaven and hears the trumpet voice say, Come up here, and I will show you the things which must happen after this. Immediately he was in the Spirit, and behold, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne. This scene sets the foundation for the rest of the book: whatever happens, God reigns.

John describes God through shining images rather than features. The one on the throne looked like a jasper stone and a sardius, and a rainbow like an emerald circled the throne. Twenty-four elders in white robes with golden crowns sat on thrones around it. Lightnings, sounds, and thunders came out of the throne. Seven lamps of fire burned before it, and in front of it was a sea of glass like crystal.

Four living creatures, full of eyes before and behind, surround the throne. The first was like a lion, the second like a calf, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each had six wings. Day and night they never rest from saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come! Whenever they give glory and honor, the twenty-four elders fall before the one on the throne. They throw their crowns before the throne, saying, Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things, and because of your desire they existed, and were created.

Show What You Know

  1. Why does the book show the throne room before trouble on earth?

  2. How does John describe God?

  3. How many wings did each living creature have?

  4. Why do the elders say God is worthy?
