Psalms 98 · Grade 4

The Whole World Rejoices

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 98 is titled simply A Psalm, and it does not name its writer. It begins with God's victory: Sing to Yahweh a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. God himself won the victory.

God's salvation was not hidden. Yahweh has made known his salvation. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He kept his promises to Israel: he has remembered his loving kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen it.

So the whole world is called to a festival. People play the harp, the trumpets and the ram's horn before the King. Creation joins in: Let the sea roar. Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the mountains sing for joy together, for he comes to judge the earth with righteousness.
