Numbers 25 · Grade 3
Joined to a False God
Read the Story
While Israel stayed in Shittim, the people of Moab called the Israelites to the sacrifices of their gods. The people ate and bowed down to their gods. Israel joined himself to Baal Peor.
Yahweh's anger burned against Israel. A plague came on the people. Those who were faithful wept at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
Phinehas was the son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron. He acted to stop the sin, and the plague was stopped. God said Phinehas was jealous for his God. God gave him a covenant of peace and of a lasting priesthood.
Memory Verse
“Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace.”
