Nahum 1: God Is a Stronghold

Nahum 1:1 calls this a revelation about Nineveh and the book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. Nahum says Yahweh is slow to anger and great in power, and he does not leave the guilty unpunished. Yahweh is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knows those who take refuge in him. God promises to break the yoke off his people, and good news of peace is coming.

Chapter 2Preschool–Grade 5

Nahum 2: God Restores His People

Nahum describes the fall of Nineveh. An attacker comes against the city, and its gates are opened. Nineveh had been like a den of lions that no one dared to bother. But Yahweh says, I am against you. In the middle of the chapter Yahweh promises to restore the excellency of Jacob.

Chapter 3Preschool–Grade 5

Nahum 3: God Sees Cruelty

Nahum's last chapter says woe to Nineveh, a city full of lies and robbery. Nineveh had treated nations cruelly. Nahum compares it to another strong city that fell. Nineveh's strongholds would be like ripe figs that fall when shaken. Its leaders would be scattered, and everyone who heard would know its cruelty had ended.
