God Will Gather His Sheep

Name Date

Read the Story

Some people planned bad things at night. In the morning they did them. They took fields and houses that were not theirs.

God did not like this. He said trouble would come. The people told the prophets to stop talking. But God made a promise. He would gather his people like sheep in a field. Their king would go before them. Yahweh would lead them.

Memory Verse

“I will surely assemble all of you, Jacob. I will surely gather the remnant of Israel. I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the middle of their pasture. They will swarm with people.”

Taking What Is Not Yours

Name Date

Read the Story

Micah warns people who plan evil on their beds. When morning comes, they do it because they have the power. They covet fields and seize them. They take houses away from families.

Yahweh says he is planning a disaster against these people. The people did not want to hear it. They told the prophets, don't prophesy. They wanted prophets who would talk about wine and strong drink.

But God had a promise too. He will surely gather the remnant of Israel. He will put them together like sheep in a pasture. One who breaks open the way will go up before them. Their king will pass before them, with Yahweh at their head.

Memory Verse

Micah 2 · Grade 4

The Breaker Goes Before Them

Name Date

Read and Think

Micah announces woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds. When the morning is light, they practice it, because they have the power. They covet fields and seize them, and they take away houses. They oppress a man and his heritage, the land his family was meant to keep.

Yahweh says he is planning a disaster against these people, and they will not walk proudly. The people told the prophets to stop. They said, don't prophesy about these things. Micah says they would rather listen to a prophet who promised them wine and strong drink. God's people had begun to act like enemies, taking robes from travelers and pushing families out of their homes.

The chapter ends with a promise. Yahweh will surely assemble Jacob and gather the remnant of Israel. He will put them together as a flock in the middle of their pasture. He who breaks open the way goes up before them. Their king passes on before them, with Yahweh at their head.

Micah 2 · Grade 5

Woe and a Promise

Name Date

Read and Think

Micah begins with woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds. They plan at night and act in the morning, because it is in the power of their hand. They covet fields and seize them, take away houses, and oppress a man and his heritage. In Israel, land was a family's inheritance from God, so stealing it was a deep injustice.

Yahweh answers with his own plan: a disaster from which they will not remove their necks. The people respond by trying to silence God's messengers. Don't prophesy, they say; disgrace won't overtake us. Yahweh asks whether his words do not do good to him who walks blamelessly. Instead, his people have risen up like an enemy, stripping robes from travelers and driving women and children out of their pleasant houses. Micah observes that a prophet promising wine and strong drink would be welcome among them.

Suddenly the tone changes to hope. Yahweh says he will surely assemble Jacob and gather the remnant of Israel, like the sheep of Bozrah, a flock in the middle of their pasture. He who breaks open the way goes up before them, and they break through the gate. Their king passes on before them, with Yahweh at their head. Christians believe this shepherd-king points to the Messiah who leads his people.

Show What You Know

  1. Why was taking land such a serious sin in Israel?

  2. How did the people respond to the prophets?

  3. What does Yahweh say his words do in verse 7?

  4. Describe the picture of hope in verses 12-13.
