Malachi 2 · Grade 4

The Messenger of Yahweh

Name Date

Read and Think

Malachi turns to the priests. God remembers his covenant with Levi, a covenant of life and peace. Of the faithful priest he says, the law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity. For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies.

But the priests of Malachi's day had turned away from the path and caused many to stumble in the law. They had corrupted the covenant and shown partiality in teaching.

Then God speaks to all the people: don't we all have one father? Hasn't one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother? God calls his people to keep faith with him and with each other, including in marriage. The chapter ends with people wearying God by saying evil people are good in his eyes.
