Leviticus 12 · Grade 3
A Lamb or Two Birds
Read the Story
God told Moses about the time after a mother gives birth. She had days of purification. This was a time of waiting before she could go to the sanctuary. On the eighth day, a baby boy was circumcised. It was a sign of God's covenant.
When the days were done, the mother came to the door of the Tent of Meeting. She brought a lamb and a young pigeon or a dove. The priest made atonement for her, and she was clean.
If she could not afford a lamb, she could bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons. Luke tells us that Mary brought this gift after Jesus was born. The Savior grew up in a poor family that trusted God.
Memory Verse
“If she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons: the one for a burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering. The priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.’””
