Lamentations 2 · Grade 4
The Lord Has Done What He Planned
Read and Think
Lamentations 2 is a second acrostic poem. It looks at Jerusalem's fall as the work of God himself. The Lord had become like an enemy, throwing down walls, palaces, and even his own altar and sanctuary. The poem shows that the disaster was not an accident.
Yahweh has done that which he planned. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old. God had warned through Moses and the prophets that rebellion would lead to judgment. The poem also blames the false prophets. They had not uncovered the people's sin, so the people never turned back.
Still, the poem does not tell people to run away from God. It tells them to run to him. Their heart cried to the Lord. They are urged to rise in the night and pour out their hearts like water before the face of the Lord. The same God who judged sin is the only one who can heal.
