Jude 1 · Grade 3

Build Yourselves Up

Name Date

Read the Story

Jude writes to those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Jude wanted to write about salvation. But he had to urge them to fight for the faith which was once for all given to the saints.

Some ungodly people had sneaked in. They turned the grace of God into an excuse to do wrong, and they denied Jesus. Jude reminds the believers that God judged wrongdoing in the past.

But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love. Have mercy on those who doubt. God is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glory with great joy.

“But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Jude 1 · Grade 4

The Faith Once Delivered

Name Date

Read and Think

Jude calls himself a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James. He writes to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. He had wanted to write about their common salvation. Instead he urges them to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

Certain people had crept in secretly. They turned the grace of God into an excuse for immorality and denied the only Master, God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude reminds readers of past judgments: unbelievers in the wilderness, angels who left their place, and Sodom and Gomorrah. He compares these people to Cain, Balaam, and Korah. They are clouds without water and trees without fruit.

Jude then turns to the believers. Remember the words of the apostles, who warned of mockers in the last time. Build yourselves up on your most holy faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep yourselves in God’s love. Be merciful to those who doubt and help rescue others. Jude ends with praise to the one who is able to keep them from stumbling.

Jude 1 · Grade 5

Able to Keep You

Name Date

Read and Think

Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, writes to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. He prays, May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. He had been eager to write about our common salvation, but he felt he must urge them to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

The danger was inside the church. Certain people had crept in secretly, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into indecency and denying our only Master, God, and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude reminds his readers of earlier judgments: the Lord saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe; angels who left their proper place are kept for judgment; Sodom and Gomorrah are an example. These intruders walk in the way of Cain, the error of Balaam, and the rebellion of Korah. Jude calls them clouds without water, autumn trees without fruit, wild waves of the sea, and wandering stars.

Then Jude turns to the faithful with a different tone. But you, beloved, remember the words of the apostles, who said that mockers would come in the last time. Keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. On some have compassion, making a distinction, and save others. Jude closes with one of the most loved praises in the New Testament: to him who is able to keep them from stumbling and to present them faultless before his glory in great joy, to God our Savior be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever.

Show What You Know

  1. What three words describe the readers at the start?

  2. What three people from the past does Jude compare the intruders to?

  3. What are believers looking for while they keep themselves in God’s love?

  4. What is God able to do, according to the closing praise?
