Jonah 2 · Grade 3
A Prayer from the Deep
Read the Story
Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God, out of the fish's belly. He said that he called to Yahweh in his trouble, and Yahweh answered him. God heard his voice.
Jonah described the deep sea. The flood was all around him. The waves passed over him. Weeds were wrapped around his head. He went down to the bottoms of the mountains. But Yahweh brought his life up from the pit.
When Jonah's soul fainted, he remembered Yahweh. His prayer came to God's holy temple. Jonah promised to give thanks and pay what he had vowed. He said salvation belongs to Yahweh. Then Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it put Jonah on the dry land.
Memory Verse
“He said, “I called because of my affliction to Yahweh. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried. You heard my voice.”
