John 8 · Grade 4
Freedom from Sin
Read and Think
Religious leaders brought a woman caught in sin to Jesus in the temple. They used her to test Him. If He let her go, they could say He ignored God's law. If He said to stone her, He would seem harsh. Jesus stooped and wrote on the ground. He told them that whoever was without sin should throw the first stone. Beginning with the oldest, they all went away. Jesus, the only sinless one, did not condemn her. He gave her mercy and told her to leave her life of sin.
Jesus said He is the light of the world. Those who follow Him will not walk in darkness. The Pharisees argued with Him, but He said His Father testified about Him.
Jesus told those who believed that if they continued in His word, they would know the truth, and the truth would make them free. They said they had never been slaves. Jesus explained that everyone who sins is a slave to sin, but if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. When Jesus said, before Abraham came into existence, I AM, they tried to stone Him. He used God's own name for Himself.
