Job 31 · Grade 4

A Life Laid Open

Name Date

Read and Think

In his final speech, Job laid his whole life open before God. He said he made a covenant with his eyes to keep his heart pure. Doesn't he see my ways, and count all my steps? Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity.

Job listed sins he had not done. He had not withheld the poor from their desire or eaten his morsel alone. He had not seen anyone perish for want of clothing. He had treated his servants fairly, saying, Didn't he who made me in the womb make him? He had not made gold his hope or rejoiced because his wealth was great.

Job had not rejoiced when his enemy fell. He opened his doors to the traveler. Then he signed his defense: Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me! The words of Job are ended. Now Job waited for God.
