Isaiah 65 · Grade 4
I Create New Heavens
Read and Think
Isaiah 65 begins with God's answer to the prayer of chapters 63-64. God says, "I am found by those who didn't seek me." In the New Testament, Paul applies this to Gentiles who came to God (Romans 10:20-21). God had "spread out my hands all day to a rebellious people." Those who rejected him would face judgment, but God would keep his faithful servants.
Then comes one of the Bible's greatest promises: "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind." God says, "I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people." There will be no more weeping. People will live long and enjoy their work: "They will build houses and inhabit them."
God will be close: "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." Peace will fill creation: "The wolf and the lamb will feed together." In the New Testament, Revelation 21:1-4 describes a new heaven and a new earth where God wipes away every tear.
