Isaiah 60 · Grade 4
The City of Yahweh
Read and Think
Isaiah 60 is full of light. "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and Yahweh's glory has risen on you! For behold, darkness will cover the earth... but Yahweh will arise on you." God's people would shine with his glory, and "Nations will come to your light."
Zion's children would come home from far away, and the nations would bring their wealth. Camels from Midian would come; "all from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense." In the New Testament, wise men brought gold and frankincense to the child Jesus (Matthew 2:11). Foreigners would rebuild the walls, and the gates would stay open day and night.
The city would be called "Yahweh's City." "Violence shall no more be heard in your land... but you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise." Even the sun would not be needed, for "Yahweh will be your everlasting light." In the New Testament, Revelation 21:23-25 describes the New Jerusalem the same way.
