Isaiah 43 · Grade 4

You Are My Witnesses

Name Date

Read and Think

In Isaiah 43, the God who created and formed Israel says, "Don't be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine." God promises, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.... When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned."

God explains why: "you have been precious and honored in my sight, and I have loved you." He would gather his people "from the east" and "from the west." Israel had a job: "You are my witnesses," says Yahweh. They were to tell the world, "I myself am Yahweh. Besides me, there is no savior."

God once made a path through the sea when Israel left Egypt. Now he says, "Don't remember the former things.... Behold, I will do a new thing." He would "make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Even though Israel had wearied God with their sins, he says, "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins."

Show What You Know

  1. Why should Israel not be afraid?

  2. What does God promise in waters and fire?

  3. What job did Israel have?

  4. What new thing would God do?

Think About It

  1. God says, I have called you by your name. You are mine. How does it feel to know you belong to God?

  2. God told Israel to be His witnesses. How can you tell others what God has done for you?

Memory Verse

“Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for calling me by name. Help me . Amen.

Take It Home

For families: talk about these together.

  • How does it feel to know you are precious to God?
  • God said He blots out sins for His own sake. How does knowing God forgives freely help you forgive others?
