Isaiah 33 · Grade 4
The King in His Beauty
Read and Think
Isaiah 33 is the last of six woes, aimed at "you who destroy," the cruel enemy. Then Isaiah prays, "Yahweh, be gracious to us. We have waited for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble." God fills Zion with justice. "The fear of Yahweh is your treasure."
When the land mourned, Yahweh said, "Now I will arise." Then Isaiah asked who could live near God's holiness. The answer: "He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly." This person refuses bribes and turns from evil. "He will dwell on high.... His bread will be supplied. His waters will be sure."
God's people would see a bright future. "Your eyes will see the king in his beauty." Jerusalem would be "a quiet habitation, a tent that won't be removed." "For Yahweh is our judge. Yahweh is our lawgiver. Yahweh is our king. He will save us." "The people who dwell therein will be forgiven their iniquity."
