Isaiah 26 · Grade 4

Your Dead Shall Live

Name Date

Read and Think

Isaiah 26 is a song sung "in the land of Judah." It celebrates a strong city with salvation for walls. "Open the gates, that the righteous nation may enter: the one which keeps faith." Then comes a famous promise: "You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you."

"Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock." God brings down the proud and lifts up the humble. Isaiah longs for God: "With my soul I have desired you in the night." Other masters had ruled them, but Isaiah said, "we will only acknowledge your name."

Then comes hope beyond death: "Your dead shall live. Their dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust." This is one of the clearest Old Testament promises of resurrection. In the New Testament, Jesus calls himself the resurrection and the life (John 11:25). Until the danger passes, God's people should "hide yourself for a little moment."
