Isaiah 24 · Grade 4
Glory to the Righteous
Read and Think
Isaiah 24 begins a section often called the Isaiah Apocalypse (chapters 24-27). It looks beyond one nation to the whole earth. "Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty." The reason is sin: people "have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant."
Judgment touches everyone, "as with the people, so with the priest." The mirth of tambourines ceases, and the joy of the harp ends. But a remnant responds with praise. "They will shout for the majesty of Yahweh." From "the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs. Glory to the righteous!"
The chapter ends with God's victory. God would punish the powers in high places and the kings of the earth. "Then the moon will be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Yahweh of Armies will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem."
