Isaiah 16 · Grade 4
Shelter for the Outcasts
Read and Think
Isaiah 16 continues the message about Moab. Moab is told to "Send the lambs for the ruler of the land" to Mount Zion, a sign of turning to Judah's king. The women of Moab are like "wandering birds, as a scattered nest" at the fords of the Arnon.
Moab's refugees ask for help: "Hide the outcasts! Don't betray the fugitive." God says, "Let my outcasts dwell with you!" Then comes a promise: "A throne will be established in loving kindness." One will sit on it "in the tent of David, judging, seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness."
But Moab's pride stood in the way: "We have heard of the pride of Moab, that he is very proud." Its vineyards and joyful harvest shouts would end. Isaiah said, "my heart sounds like a harp for Moab." Within three years, Moab's glory would be brought low.

God's people were to shelter outcasts. Who are the outcasts in your community, and how can you welcome them?
Moab's pride kept it from receiving help. How can pride keep us from asking God or others for help?
