Hosea 2 · Grade 4
Speak Tenderly
Read and Think
Hosea 2 continues the picture of Israel as God's wife who has been unfaithful. She went after the Baals, saying they gave her bread and wool. But she didn't know that God gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and the silver and gold that they used for Baal.
So God said He would take back His grain in its time, and stop her feasts. This was not because He stopped loving her. It was to bring her back. Then she will say she will return to her first husband, for then it was better with her than now.
God's answer is full of love. He said, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. He would give the valley of Achor for a door of hope. He will betroth her to Him in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion. God would say to those who were not His people, you are my people.
