Ezra 7 · Grade 4
Seek, Do, and Teach
Read and Think
Now Ezra comes into the story. The temple had been done for about sixty years. He was a priest whose family line went back to Aaron, and he was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses. In the king's seventh year, Ezra led a group from Babylon to Jerusalem. The trip took about four months.
Here is the key to Ezra's life. He set his heart to seek God's law, to do it, and to teach it. Study, obedience, and teaching went together, in that order.
King Artaxerxes wrote a letter. It let any of God's people go with Ezra. He gave silver and gold for gifts to God. He told his men to give Ezra what he needed. He freed temple workers from taxes and told Ezra to appoint judges and teach God's law. Ezra responded with praise, saying that Yahweh had put this in the king's heart and had extended loving kindness to him.
