Ezra 10 · Grade 4
Courage to Obey
Read and Think
Ezra prayed and wept before God's house. A great crowd of men, women, and children came. They wept too. Shecaniah said the people had sinned against God in their marriages. Yet he said there was hope for Israel.
Shecaniah said they should make a promise to God. He told Ezra to rise up and lead, and they would be with him. Ezra made the leaders, priests, Levites, and all Israel swear to act. Word went out. Everyone must come to Jerusalem in three days.
In the ninth month, the men sat in the open square, trembling because of this matter and the heavy rain. Ezra called them to confess to Yahweh and separate from the peoples of the land and the foreign wives. They agreed, but asked for officials to handle each case because of the rain and the number of people. Ezra and the leaders looked into each case. It took three months. The chapter ends with the names of those involved, including priests and Levites.
