Ezekiel 36: A New Heart and a New Spirit

God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the mountains of Israel. The enemy nations had mocked the land and taken it, but God said he was for the mountains of Israel. They would again grow branches and fruit, cities would be rebuilt, and people and animals would multiply. God explained that he had scattered Israel because they defiled the land, and that among the nations they had profaned his holy name. Now God would act for the sake of his holy name. He would gather his people, sprinkle clean water on them, and cleanse them from all their idols. He would give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them, taking away the heart of stone and giving a heart of flesh. He would put his Spirit within them so they would walk in his ways. The desolate land would become like the garden of Eden, and the people would know that he is Yahweh.
