God Took Care of Them

Name Date

Read the Story

Moses said, Remember the long walk in the desert. It took forty years. God led you every day.

God gave you manna to eat. He taught you that people need more than bread. We need God's word too. Your clothes did not wear out. Your feet did not swell.

Now God is giving you a good land. It has water, wheat, grapes, and figs. When you eat and are full, bless God. Do not forget Him. Do not say, I got rich by myself. God gives you power to do it.

Memory Verse

“He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.”

Deuteronomy 8 · Grade 3

Remember the Way

Name Date

Read the Story

Moses told Israel to remember all the way God led them for forty years. God let them be hungry and then fed them with manna. He was teaching them that people do not live by bread only, but by every word from God's mouth.

In all those years, their clothes did not grow old and their feet did not swell. God disciplined them like a father disciplines his son, for their good.

The land ahead was good, with brooks, springs, wheat, barley, vines, figs, olives, and honey. Its stones were iron and its hills held copper. When they were full, they must bless God. They must never say their own power made them rich.

Memory Verse

“He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.”

Deuteronomy 8 · Grade 4

Every Word from God's Mouth

Name Date

Read and Think

Moses called Israel to remember the wilderness. God led them forty years to humble them and to test what was in their hearts. He let them hunger, then fed them with manna, which they had never known, so they would learn that people live by every word that comes from God's mouth.

Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread. Jesus said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth (Matthew 4:4). The wilderness years showed God's care: clothes did not wear out and feet did not swell. Like a father, God disciplined His people for their good.

The danger ahead was not hunger but plenty. In a land of wheat, barley, vines, figs, pomegranates, olives, honey, iron, and copper, Israel might grow proud and say, My power and my hand got me this wealth. Moses said, Remember God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.

Deuteronomy 8 · Grade 5

Remember, Do Not Forget

Name Date

Read and Think

The key words of Deuteronomy 8 are remember and do not forget. God led Israel forty years in the wilderness to humble them, test them, and reveal what was in their hearts. He allowed hunger and then fed them manna so they would learn that people do not live by bread only, but by every word from the mouth of the Lord.

Jesus used this verse to answer Satan in the wilderness: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth (Matthew 4:4). He trusted His Father rather than His own power. The same chapter shows God as a father who disciplines his son, not to harm him, but to train him. Even their clothing did not grow old in forty years.

Moses warns that prosperity is a test too. When houses are built, flocks multiply, and silver and gold increase, the heart can be lifted up and forget God. Israel must not say, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. Remembering that God gives the power to get wealth keeps the heart humble and grateful.

  2. Why did God allow hunger and give manna?

  3. How did Jesus use this verse?

  4. Why is God's discipline good?

  5. How is prosperity a test?
