Paul told believers to set their minds on things above, where Christ is. They were to put away sinful ways. They should put away anger and unkind words, and stop lying to one another.

God's people should put on a new heart. Paul named kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Believers should forgive each other, just as Christ forgave them. Above all these, they should love. The peace of Christ should rule their hearts, and they should be thankful.

Paul said to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God. He told children to obey their parents in all things, because this pleases the Lord. He told fathers not to make their children discouraged. He said to work hard at everything, as if working for the Lord.

Whatever You Do

Name Date

Read and Think

Paul writes: If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is. Believers should set their minds there, not on earthly things. Their old sinful ways must be put away, including anger, slander, and shameful speech. They should not lie to one another, since they have put on a new self. In Christ, there is no difference of Greek or Jew, bondservant or free; Christ is all, and in all.

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, they put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, and patience. They bear with one another and forgive each other: even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Paul says: Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. The peace of God rules their hearts, the word of Christ lives in them, and they sing to God with thankful hearts.

Paul then speaks to households. Wives are to be in subjection to their husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands are to love their wives and not be bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers must not provoke their children, so they won't be discouraged. Servants are to obey their masters with sincere hearts, fearing God. Paul tells everyone to work heartily, as for the Lord, for they serve the Lord Christ. He who does wrong will be repaid, and there is no partiality.

Seek the Things Above

Name Date

Read and Think

Paul writes: If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Believers' lives are hidden with Christ in God, and when Christ is revealed, they will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore they must put away sinful ways, along with anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speech. They have put off the old self and put on the new, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator. In this new life there can't be Greek and Jew, bondservant or free person, but Christ is all, and in all.

Paul describes the new clothing of God's people. As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, they are to put on compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance. They bear with one another and forgive each other, and Paul adds: even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Then he writes, Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. The peace of God should rule their hearts. The word of Christ should dwell in them richly as they teach one another and sing psalms and hymns with grace. Whatever they do, in word or deed, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Paul then gives instructions to each member of the household. Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, don't provoke your children, so that they won't be discouraged. Servants are told to obey their earthly masters, not just when watched, but with sincere hearts, fearing God. To all, Paul says to work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing they will receive the reward of the inheritance from the Lord. Wrongdoing will be repaid, and there is no partiality.
