Colossians 2 · Grade 4
Rooted and Built Up
Read and Think
Paul tells the believers how greatly he struggles in prayer for them. He wants their hearts to be comforted and knit together in love. He wants them to know Christ, in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. Paul gives his reason: Now I say this that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech.
Paul urges them: As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him. Like a tree with deep roots and a house on a firm base, they should grow strong in Him, overflowing with thanks. He warns them to be careful so that no one carries them away by empty human ideas that are not after Christ. All the fullness of God dwells in Christ, and they have everything they need in Him.
Paul reminds them what God has done. They were dead in their trespasses, but God made them alive together with Christ, having forgiven all their trespasses. He wiped out the record that was against them, nailing it to the cross. So they should not let anyone judge them about food, drink, or special days. Those things were a shadow, but the real thing is Christ.
