Read the Story

As the number of disciples grew, the Greek-speaking believers said their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.

The twelve called the disciples together. They said they should not leave the word of God to serve tables. They asked the believers to choose seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom.

The whole group was pleased. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith, and six others. The apostles prayed and laid their hands on them. The word of God increased, and many priests believed.

Stephen did great wonders and signs. Some men argued with him, but they could not stand against his wisdom. So they got men to tell lies about him and brought him to the council. All who sat there saw his face like the face of an angel.

Memory Verse

“Therefore, select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”
