Acts 2 · Grade 4
Peter's Sermon
Read and Think
On the day of Pentecost the believers were together. A sound like a mighty wind filled the house. Tongues like fire sat on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other languages.
Devout Jews from every nation were in Jerusalem. Each one heard the mighty works of God in his own language. Some were amazed. Others mocked and said the men were full of new wine.
Peter said they were not drunk, for it was only the third hour of the day. This was what Joel had spoken: God would pour out his Spirit on all flesh. Peter quoted Joel's promise that "whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." He told them that God raised Jesus up and made him both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).
The hearers were cut to the heart and asked what to do. Peter told them to repent and be baptized, and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. About three thousand were baptized. The believers shared all things and met with glad hearts. The Lord added to them day by day.
