Acts 2 · Grade 3
The Church Begins
Read the Story
On the day of Pentecost the believers were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a rushing wind filled the house. Tongues like fire sat on each of them, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Jews from every nation were in Jerusalem. They were amazed, because each one heard the believers speaking in his own language about the mighty works of God. Some asked what this meant. Others made fun of them.
Peter stood up and spoke. He said this was what the prophet Joel had promised: God would pour out his Spirit. He said that God raised Jesus up, and that all the apostles were witnesses (Acts 2:32). He told them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38).
About three thousand people were baptized that day. The believers kept on in the apostles' teaching, in fellowship, in breaking bread, and in prayer. They shared what they had with anyone in need.
Memory Verse
“They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer.”
