I Am with You

Name Date

Read the Story

Paul left Athens and came to Corinth. He found Aquila and his wife Priscilla. They were tentmakers like Paul, so he stayed and worked with them.

Every Sabbath Paul talked in the synagogue. Some opposed him, so he went to teach the Gentiles. Crispus, a leader of the synagogue, believed with all his house. Many people heard and were baptized.

In a vision at night, the Lord told Paul not to be afraid but to keep speaking. The Lord said he was with Paul and had many people in the city. So Paul lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God.

Some people brought Paul to the ruler Gallio, but Gallio would not judge the case. Later Paul sailed away. A man named Apollos came to Ephesus. Priscilla and Aquila explained the way of God to him more clearly. Then Apollos helped the believers and showed from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

Speak and Don't Be Silent

Name Date

Read and Think

Paul left Athens and came to Corinth. He found Aquila and Priscilla, who had come from Italy. They were tentmakers by trade, so Paul lived and worked with them. He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

When Silas and Timothy came, Paul testified that Jesus was the Christ. When some opposed him, he went to the house of Titus Justus, next to the synagogue. Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many Corinthians believed and were baptized.

The Lord said to Paul in a vision, "Don't be afraid, but speak and don't be silent." The Lord promised to be with him and said he had many people in that city. Paul stayed a year and six months, teaching the word of God.

Some brought Paul to Gallio's judgment seat. Gallio said it was a question about words and names and their own law, and he would not judge it. Later Paul visited Ephesus and other places. Apollos, a man mighty in the Scriptures, taught about Jesus. Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. Apollos then powerfully showed by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

Acts 18 · Grade 5

A Year and Six Months in Corinth

Name Date

Read and Think

After Athens, Paul came to Corinth and found Aquila, a man of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla. They came because Claudius had commanded all Jews to leave Rome. They were tentmakers. Because they had the same trade, Paul lived and worked with them. He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying that Jesus was the Christ. When some opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing. He said that from then on he would go to the Gentiles. He went to the house of Titus Justus, who worshiped God. Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed with all his house, and many Corinthians believed and were baptized.

The Lord said to Paul in a vision, "Don't be afraid, but speak and don't be silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city." He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God. Gallio was proconsul of Achaia. Some brought Paul to the judgment seat. But Gallio refused to judge questions about words, names, and their law, and drove them away. Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, was then beaten before the judgment seat, and Gallio cared about none of these things.

Paul stayed many days more, then sailed for Syria with Priscilla and Aquila. He reasoned briefly at Ephesus. Then he went on to Caesarea, Antioch, Galatia, and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples. Meanwhile Apollos came. He was an eloquent man from Alexandria, mighty in the Scriptures. He taught accurately about Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. In Achaia he greatly helped those who had believed through grace. He powerfully refuted opponents in public, showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
